Campaign in your community

Hello from our new Policy & Comms Manager

Hello! My name is Samuel and I joined the team at JIA at NRAS in December 2019. I have a campaigning background, so I am looking forward to supporting you in campaigning for better support for children and young people with JIA, and their families.

I previously worked on projects to support young children’s mental health and I am particularly aware of how important it is for us to make sure we are looking after one another’s emotional and psychological wellbeing, as well as addressing all the physical impacts of JIA.

As Policy & Communications Manager I am here to support young people and families in campaigning on JIA-related issues that matter to them and have the potential to change the lives of others with JIA for the better.

Good news from Cardiff

We are pleased to report back on a campaign started by NRAS all the way back in 2012 – before JIA at NRAS even existed! – and continued by NRAS, Versus Arthritis and the British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) in partnership.

This has resulted in a big step up in services for children in Cardiff and the surrounding area. Working together with Dr Jeremy Camilleri, Consultant Rheumatologist at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, we have been calling for a specialist paediatric rheumatology service in Wales – and highlighting the need for the service among local children.

Almost a decade of campaigning has now paid off – a new paediatric rheumatology service is being established in Cardiff, with children already benefitting from the service. It is the first dedicated paediatric rheumatology specialist service for children with JIA in Wales.

The year ahead

Over the year ahead I am here to support you in achieving things for children and young people with JIA in your community. If you have an idea for a campaign you would like to start, get in touch by emailing

Campaign in your community

Some communities in the UK have fantastic JIA services; in others, they could be better. Schools, healthcare teams and children with JIA all have a part to play.

NRAS is calling for an end to the postcode lottery of care.
